William Vigil
William Vigil, a dual citizen from Nicaragua and Australia, has over 35 years’ experience in international development and a blend of on-the ground field experience with policy, planning and diplomatic efforts. He has worked with the United Nations in several capacities – UN national counterpart in Nicaragua; acting Nicaraguan Representative to the U.N. in New York; consultant for several agencies, and most recently, World Food Programme Country Director in the Dominican Republic. He has worked with the Canadian Government, the European Union, the Inter-American Development Bank and served as a Nicaraguan diplomat in Washington and New York. As an independent consultant, William specializes in economic development, food security, humanitarian and disaster risk reduction, as well as issues relating to global diplomacy.
